A Christian in Power
As Christians,
what do we command? It is often misunderstood that power corrupts absolutely in
all situations and at all times. As Christians, we should know better, being
that our father in Heaven is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, all seeing,
all in all and creator of the entire universe. And yet, he is full of love,
compassion, forgiveness, sacrifice, concern for His children and everything
that is good. Being Children of this wonderful creator, we should exhibit power
in the same manner and form that He does, choosing what is right over what is
wrong, loving mercy and showing justice in all situations, being humble enough
to accept our wrong, making it right and exhibiting peace in all situations and
circumstances.
Today’s world
is very full of the wrong kind of understanding of power, although being an age
old vessel tending towards corruption, power is more in the ability to choose
right over wrong, than it is in the choice of wrong over right. The force of
good has always been the tougher call in a world of evil consistency. As we
have all seen in various parts of our lives and the people around us, being in
authority usually seems to change a person from a nature of humility to one of
pride simply by the addition of power, authority, wealth or one form of
dominion or the other even in the hierarchy of the Church. I guess a question
there-in could be, Why? Why does man seek to be in command of everything they
understand and even things they do not? Why does a simple man, humble in all
his ways, achieve some sort of wealth or authority and become an entirely new
man? Why is it difficult to remain the same once we have achieved some sort of
notable stride in this world? I guess the obvious answer is found in the Bible;
where your treasure is, there will your heart be also, Matthew 6: 12.
A man or woman
who truly loves God, will walk the walk of life in a very different way than
the rest of the world. They would seek only to do as God commands through Jesus
Christ, always listening to the Holy Spirit in everything they do and when a
situation seems too hard to understand, they will take it to God in prayer,
knowing that the prayer of a righteous man avails much. The thing to understand
is simply this, treasure on earth can be in a variety of forms and sometimes
they are not really bad things to desire or want, power included because a
person could desire power in order to effect positive changes in society to the
benefit of all. The problem lies in the place where the first obligation to a
person’s life is not the will of God and not the ways of His difference from
the ways of this sinful world. No matter how kind, nice and warm an ungodly man
is, he is bound to makes choices based on one form of bias or another, to seek
to do a thing to the best of his understanding regardless of how it affects
others or the consequences there-in. Let us therefore be aware who we are, what
we stand for and why, so that be it that we are in a position of authority and
power, we are just that: A Christian in authority and power and not another
power drunken and driven individual seeking a selfish goal regardless of who or
what he or she has to step over in order to achieve it.
